Canoga Park, CA., June 2018–USModular, Inc, the leading modular home builder in California, today announced the installation of its latest residential project in Canoga Park, highlighting a building system that allows the construction of single family homes faster, better, and for less in comparison to site-built homes.

The latest collaboration between New Economics for Women and USModular, Inc  are new 1,471 square feet, 3 bedroom, 2 bath homes in Canoga Park, CA.  These single story homes include a covered front porch and attached 2 car garages. The interior features energy star appliances, laminate flooring, solid surface countertops and tile surround showers. The exterior materials include 9 foot sidewalls, rain barrels, dual pane windows and cool roof shingles

Installed in one day, this affordable housing project was built to help deserving families prosper in healthy and safe environments in the Los Angeles area.

Recent data indicates that home prices in the Los Angeles area rose 10% in 2017 with a median sale price of $570,000 with tight supply and strong demand being the main factors.

New Economics for Women (NEW) is a Non-Profit Community Development Corporation based in Los Angeles. For 30 years, NEW has been dedicated to the economic security of women, especially immigrant women, in low-wealth communities. NEW believes the “Power of Place” has the ability to transform lives. That’s why their developments are centered on the needs of their residents. By combining affordable housing with services to meet the needs of its residents, NEW has developed several distinct communities in different geographic areas of Los Angeles including award winning and innovative community transformations.  Some of NEW outcomes of 2015-2016 include:

  • 1071 affordable housing units were offered to homeless single parent mothers and adult women, working Families and retired senior citizens in Los Angeles County and Denver Colorado
  • 5291 customers were stabilized through economic impact development services
  • 327 families attended NEW homebuyer workshop
  • 7 families were successfully prevented from going into foreclosure

According to Bill Cavanaugh, Vice President of USModular, Inc, families hoping to live in the Los Angeles or surrounding areas are in need of homes that are energy efficient and affordable, but the available inventory of homes for sale in the Los Angeles area are not accessible to most families.

“USModular, Inc. is the first modular builder focused on building extremely high quality, energy efficient, affordable homes in the Los Angeles area,” Cavanaugh said. “By building off-site in a controlled factory setting, we reduce the construction schedule by 50 percent or more versus a traditional site-based construction process – helping to provide families and generations to follow a safe and healthy home environment in the Los Angeles area.  Virtually any style of home or commercial building using traditional construction techniques can be built using modular construction.  No matter what you build, it can be built faster, better, and for less using modular construction While building the Canoga Park affordable housing project, we enjoyed the close collaboration of working with the visionary team at New Economics for Women (NEW).  NEW is committed to empowering lower income, women led families with an approach that includes creating physical spaces (housing, community centers and schools) that help families prosper in healthy and safe environments.”
