Valencia Grove, a large housing community on the corner of Orange Street and Lugonia Avenue in Redlands, CA was built 70 years ago. The entire community is undergoing a major revitalization. The Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino has partnered with various agencies to move away from the traditional public housing model towards a more diverse, mixed-income community. Utilizing the Off-Site Construction method, factory built modular units will be installed to substantially accelerate the construction schedule, allowing the apartments to be occupied months earlier than if they were built with On-Site Construction. The mix of 5 unit, 6 unit and 9 unit buildings will transform the landscape of concrete foundations to 2 and 3 story structures at the rate of 1 building every day to day and a half. When the modules arrive at the site, the interiors will be sheet-rocked and painted, the plumbing installed and tested, the light fixtures installed and wired and the cabinets and appliances in place. The long range goal is to provide continuous construction employment for residents in the foreseeable future as HACSB commences public housing redevelopment activities in Redlands and San Bernardino in phased projects projected to last 6 to 10 years.
